Qualcomm has launched a new smartphone processor which is the Snapdragon 778G SoC with Adreno 642GL GPU, Wi-fi 6 and upto 144Hz FHD+ display support. It is said to be a lower version of the Snapdragon 780G. The Snapdragon 778G 5G support Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System which is capable to provide peak download speed of 3.3 Gbps.
It is also being rumored by a tipster from China that the Snapdragon 778G chip will make its debut on the Honor 50.
Snapdragon 778G 5G Specifications:
As per the Qualcomm microsite, Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G is manufactured on 6 nm process technology. Qualcomm is using the 6th generation AI engine on the Hexagon 770 processor that claims to deliver 12 TOPS of performance.
The Snapdragon 778G 5G (SM7325 part number) is equipped with a Cortex-A78 custom-made Kryo 670 CPU with maximum clock speeds of 2.4GHz. In terms of display, the Chipset will support up to 144Hz FHD+ (1600 x 3360 pixels) resolution display with refresh rates of up to 144Hz. The chip also supports 10-bit colour and Rec2020 color gamut.
The chipset is paired with Adreno 642L graphics, which has support for Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL 3S 3.1, OpenCL 2.0 FP, HDR10+, and HDR10. It also supports LPDDR4 RAM, a maximum of 2100Mhz clock speeds with up to 16GB memory density and UFS 3.1 fast storage.
Coming to the ISP options, the Snapdragon 778G uses a triple 14-bit Spectra 570 ISP that supports up to 192-megapixel single camera, up to 36-megapixel + 22-megapixel dual-camera system, and up to 22-megapixel triple camera system. The ISP also gets support for 10-bit HDR HEIF / HEIC photo capture, AI-based autofocus, multi-frame noise reduction, 720p/240fps slow-motion video shooting, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG.
As for the connectivity, it supports 5G that is made possible using the Snapdragon X53 5G modem-RF system with peak download speeds of 3.3Gbps. It also comes with Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5, 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.2, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, NavIC enabled, dual frequency GPS, QZSS, and USB 3.1. Additional features include USB 3.1 and USB-C, Qualcomm 3D Sonic and 3D Sonic Max fingerprint scanners, Quick Charge 5 technology & Fingerprint, Iris, Voice, Face Biometric Authentication.
