Bharat Air fibre is a wireless internet connection which must sound similar to BSNL’s FTTH service BharatFibre. But no, both are very different. The FTTH service uses wired technology to provide broadband services, whereas Bharat AirFibre is totally wireless. Bharat Air Fibre offers broadband up to 100Mbps up to a distance of 5 kms. It can go beyond 5 Kms based on the Air media and the range.
BSNL is very aggressively pursuing this service and has brought in new policies with lot of flexibilities for utilizing this Bharat Air Fibre Service to provide customer connections across any terrains of the country.
Also, Bharat Air Fibre services are available in rural areas, while Bharat Fibre FTTH services are available in both rural and urban locations.
The plan for BSNL Bharat Air fiber was to develop the villages and bring them up by providing the basic internet facility.
Bharat Air Fiber offers internet and free calling services to their customers.
Initially, BSNL started to expand its fibre connectivity in villages with BharatNet. The AirFibre is a continuation of the effort that aims to connect 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats.
How does it work?
BSNL launched the Bharat Air Fibre service on the unlicensed spectrum that has not been licensed to any entity. Since this unlicensed spectrum has very little interference, the relay quality will be better for the subscribers in villages where there is very little disturbance for these airwaves.
BSNL also uses line-of-sight radio waves to deploy the Bharat AirFibre and provide call-center services to the villages. The absence of WiFi routers and appliances like microwave ovens in villages makes them easier for the Bharat AirFibre services to work.
BSNL’s Bharat Air Fiber requires no fiber laying and splicing. It uses WiFi technology (Point to Point / Point to Multi Point) to deliver ultra fast wireless broadband to customers at affordable tariff. It is well suited in areas where OFC laying is extremely difficult.
