Apple was fined with a heavy amount of 10 million euros (90 Crores approx.) by the Italy’s antitrust authority for “aggressive and misleading” marketing this monday.
We all are aware that the said company has advertised saying that several iPhone models were water-resistant. But Apple failed to mention in the said advertisements that these iPhone models were water-resistant only under certain circumstances.
In addition to all the aggressive claim on ads, Apple iPhones were also not covered by warranty in case the said iPhones were damaged by liquids.
It cited promotional claims relating to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11pro and iPhone 11 pro Max models.
The authority also rapped Apple for a disclaimer that the warranty provided by them for the iPhones did not cover damage caused by liquids, saying that it “was deemed to mislead consumers”.
“For these reasons, the authority has decided to impose penalties totalling EUR10 million (roughly Rs. 90 crores) on Apple Distribution International and on Apple Italia,” it said in a statement.
